Okay. This was in my Newsweek from last week. For those interested in reducing the number of diapers in landfills, this is another alternative to cloth diapers. A little strange and definitely not main stream. Click here to go to DiaperFreeBaby.com

A friend of Steve's sister has been using this method since her son was about 6 months old. She and her husband were missionaries in Eastern Europe and I guess the method is popular there since there is little money for diapers. It sounds like a lot of work and you'd have to be a stay at home mom. Of all the new baby crazes I would recommend baby sign language. My niece Natalie knew only three signs and could inform us of her basic needs with out crying or screaming.
This method is used by one of the "stepford mothers" in Jennifer Weiner's new book "Goodnight Nobody." One of the main character's single friends is appalled when she is cornered by the picture-perfect mother and inundated with "no-diaper" potty training stories. Most of us (all of us?) wore diapers when we were little and we turned out fine... so why mess (literally) with a good thing?
